BITA: Biology Session (introduction)
Tracking:
looking at tracks to figure out what animals are there (identification),
what they were doing and what they were doing to/with each other
To track animals you need to look for the clues they leave behind:
- Tracks:
their footprints.
- Scats:
POOP. Scats can also be used to identify animals, also will tell you what
the animal is eating.
- Signs:
These are more difficult to see and interpret.
- Chewing or claw marks on trees or shrubs
- Digging or tunneling in the ground
- Nests, homes, dams
- Trails, runways, beds, rolling places
- Food remains, caches

Identifying Tracks:
Count the toes!
animals with 2 toes
animals with 4 toes
animals with 5 toes
animals with 5 hind toes (back feet) and 4 front toes
Track Stories:
Once you identify animal tracks, you may fmd that they will tell a story
about what the animals were doing....
